I live at noon. Mushrooms never needed it. They don't feed on sunlight at all, and they are closer relatives of animals than of plants. Lion's Mane and Reishi grow on wood, in the forest's lower layers.
Coffee started there too. Arabica began as a shrub under the forest canopy in the highlands of southwestern Ethiopia. The understory is that layer under the canopy, so that is what I named this line.
